From the Helicopter Online Ground School team comes a book that'll help you pass your FAA Private Pilot written test and oral check ride.

The dream of becoming a certificated Helicopter Private Pilot is a dream many people have had since the beginning of aviation. Dreaming is easy, but earning the coveted private pilot certificate will require a lot of work, and it is worth it. I created this private pilot study guide for everyone who has the dream of becoming a pilot. I struggled with all the ground knowledge and always wondered why there wasn't some in-depth study guide for helicopter training. If you search hard enough, you can find some material out there, but I wanted something no one else had. This manual is designed to help you test your knowledge and give you an idea of various questions your instructor and the examiner might ask you. It was not intended to cover every question you may be asked on your check ride. There's no way to write a manual that could possibly cover everything, so I set out to give you a starting point. You will!

l find the manual broken into separate TASKS (A-H) following the practical test standards (PTS). I left out the remaining tasks since they cover what you will be doing during the flight portion of the check ride. I wanted to focus on what I consider the oral examination portion. You will notice each section has questions without the answers. This is for you to quiz yourself and write your answers in yourself. The following section will be the same questions with the answers I filled in for you. If you have a friend or significant other, they can read the questions to you and have the solutions available, so they will know if you answered correctly or not. Feel free to work on any task in any order. This is your manual; you choose how to work through the material. The PTS is your final test on check ride day, so make sure you understand all the TASKS.

🚀 The Book in 3 Sentences

  3. Simplicity

💭 My Thoughts

I do not know about you, but as a working adult with many responsibilities, including running my tech businesses, overseeing my real estate investments, and running my various YouTube channels. Juggling this hectic work schedule and other adulting responsibilities can make it challenging to find time to study. When I decided I wanted to become a helicopter pilot, I knew I would need to work smarter, not harder.

I started with HOGS online video courses to supplement my in-person lessons with my flight instructor. I could play the videos in the background while performing other tasks around the house or listen to the audio while driving. This gave significant repetition and a different perspective of explaining helicopter aerodynamic principles.

Then, when preparing for my written Private Pilot test, I took to the internet and found software programs with sample questions. Some of the apps were ok, some not so much. This was around the same time Kenny and Brain announced this new book, and I pre-ordered it. What I loved about this book was the simplicity in use.

What I loved most about this book was its simplicity.

Open up the spiral-bound book, read the question, and answer it. Pretty simple.

I write out handwritten problems and answers on paper in the study technique. When reading a question, rather than verbally stating it, I would write out the question first, then the answer. This takes longer intentionally but helps your brain to focus completely on the question and response, improving memory recall.

I went through the book numerous times and burned through multiple pens and legal pads, but in the end, I passed without issue.

👤 Who Should Read It?

That is simple, anyone that wants to pass their written exam and check ride for their FAA Private Pilot.

But, a little-known secret that Kenny was telling me when I met him a few months ago. The book also covers many of the topics you will need on your Commercial and CFI check rides because even at those higher levels, the basics are expected to be known solid.
